Mahogany Dining Table and set of chairs by AKD Furniture

At AKD Furniture all our dining tables are hand crafted by skilled carpenters using traditional cabinet making techniques. The majority of our mahogany dining tables are made to order and so it is not a problem to have any of the models bespoke made the length and width that suits your dining space. We can also make other table designs that are not shown in our shop. Perhaps you have seen a design you like in a magazine picture or other website, if so just show us the picture and we will replicate under our bespoke made service.

All our tables are solidly built to the highest of standards mainly using solid mahogany which is all from sustainable, government controlled sources. For the table tops we now use a high quality solid wood mahogany veneer however you can request solid wood tops if preferred. Please ask for details.

Victorian Styled Mahogany Dining Table

Take for example the traditionally styled Victorian Dining Table with its elegantly fluted legs and solid construction. This dining table comes in a large array of different sizes and shapes: oval, rectangular or 'D' ended and as a solid fixed top or extending version.

Standard sizes start from 120cm to 150cm, 180cm and 230cm and each size comes with a choice of one or two leaves. With 6 and 8 seater tables being the norm we also do 8, 10, 12 and 14 seater tables and with extra 2 seats squeezed in around the oval ends for those unexpected guests you can really have a party.

If the largest standard size of 330cm (that is 230 + 2 leaves of 50cm each) is not big enough for you then we can make to order practically any size though of course, the construction may need to be adjusted. This may include having extra supporting legs or even making the table in sections that can be pushed together seamlessly.

Chippendale-Style Mahogany Dining Tables

Another timeless design is this Chippendale styled dining table with central pedestals. There is the characteristic Chippendale rope carving (sometimes referred to as pie crust carving) around the top and the ball and claw feet on the three legged pedestals.

These models are available rectangular, D ends, oval end, round and even square if required. Again they come in all the standard sizes above as well as bespoke sizes maybe as a conference table or over sized for a large residence.

Round Mahogany Dining Tables

Round dining tables offer an alternative seating arrangement. The one featured here is a colonial design and can be finished in either white painted mahogany or the more traditional stained mahogany colour which brings out the full beauty of the wood. The central support pedestal  is made up of four curved legs finishing with carved disc feet and resting on a shaped plinth.

The round dining table is especially suited for informal meals where everyone can see each other across the table allowing a free flow of conversation and great party atmosphere.

Standard sizes for round tables are 140cm through to a massive 220cm diameter allowing for at least 10 / 12 seats. Although as with the all our furniture there is a bespoke service allowing you to choose your own size be it large or smaller.

Finishes

There is a choice of colours starting with the traditional mahogany stains of rich mid-brown with a hint of red or tan with its strong flame colour which are then waxed to a wonderful satin sheen.

Then there are the painted finishes, the most popular being the white or antiqued white pain finish as in the picture above. However there are also other colours available including cream and beige and even black. The painted finishes can be distressed for that elegant shabby chic look.

Construction

The construction of our tables as standard is with a high quality mahogany veneered top with the rest of the table being solid mahogany. However you can also order with a solid mahogany top, its not a problem.

We have chosen to make the dining table tops with a mahogany veneer rather than solid wood to eliminate the risk of any splitting or warping. In this way the tops still retain the stunning appearance  of polished mahogany but without possible problems which may arise from the natural movement of solid wood as it reacts to the changing seasons and central heating.

In fact veneers have been used for many years by distinguished cabinet makers to produce some of the most exquisite furniture to be found up and down the country in our finest manor houses.
